GE HealthCare has announced the launch of Prostate Volume Assist (PVA), an AI software feature aimed at enhancing urological imaging and treatment.

This AI-enabled feature is set to automate the manual process of generating prostate volume measurements, a critical factor in diagnosing and managing prostate diseases.

PVA is designed to improve the workflow for urologists by providing a quick and automated one-click process to capture prostate volume.

This functionality is crucial as prostate volume measurements are integral in identifying and planning treatment for prostate diseases, including prostate cancer, where accurate calculations are vital for determining prostate-specific antigen density (PSAD).

GE HealthCare innovation, surgical visualization and guidance, ultrasound head Fredrik Gran said: “Normally, clinicians determine prostate volume through a manual, repetitive process that requires measuring multiple dimensions and applying a mathematical formula.

“Prostate Volume Assist uses artificial intelligence to automate this process with a single click and yield results in less than two seconds. This technology provides an added level of support for urologists to improve efficiencies in the workflow and enable precision care.”

GE HealthCare plans to showcase PVA at the European Association of Urology Congress in Paris next month and at the American Urological Association Annual Meeting in San Antonio in May.

GE HealthCare surgical visualisation and guidance, ultrasound general manager Urvi Vyas said: “This technology provides urologists with a unique solution to enhance workflows, guide surgical urology procedures, and allow them to quickly retrieve the important details they need to make critical treatment decisions.”

Last month, GE HealthCare partnered with MedQuest Associates to provide new medical device technology and digital tools for outpatient imaging centres.
