Baxter introduces digital image feature for Allyn PanOptic Plus

Baxter International has introduced a new digital image capture capability for its existing Welch Allyn PanOptic Plus ophthalmoscope in the US.

The iExaminer Pro System introduces crucial technology to routine eye exams, enhancing healthcare professionals’ capacity to assess and diagnose patients’ eye health.

The PanOptic Plus ophthalmoscope, equipped with the iExaminer Pro system, comes with the ability to connect a smart device for capturing images and enables clinicians to rapidly transition from an optical examination to digital image capture.

When paired with the iExaminer Pro App, healthcare professionals can securely save and share eye images for tracking and trending, thereby enabling more informed consultations with specialists.

The iExaminer Pro System has been paired with Baxter’s Welch Allyn MacroView Plus Otoscope since 2021.

The PanOptic Plus and MacroView Plus tools provide clinicians with larger views compared with standard ophthalmoscopes and otoscopes, along with added benefits such as durable LED lamps and DuraShock technology to ensure durability.

The incorporation of digital image capture capability for eye exams is part of Baxter’s commitment to leverage connected devices to boost patient outcomes through routine physical exams.

Baxter Front Line Care medical affairs head Julie Jakubowski said: “Examining the structure of the eyes is a critical part of assessing patient health.

“The PanOptic Plus Ophthalmoscope with iExaminer Pro System helps to enable healthcare providers to catch issues early on in a primary care setting, easily collaborate with specialists and facilitate patients getting the diagnosis, care and treatment they need in a timely manner.”

In March this year, Baxter issued an urgent medical device correction for its Life2000 Ventilation System.

It made this move because of the potential for patient oxygen desaturation (low blood oxygen) events, which can take place in certain conditions when the Life2000 system is linked with a third-party oxygen concentrator.
